Illumination Engineer, Finland or Germany
About Us:
TactoTek® is transforming the design and manufacturing of electronics with our IMSE® (In-Mold Structural Electronics) technology. By licensing our technology to development houses and manufacturers across industries, we enable the creation of innovative, lightweight, and sustainable electronic solutions. Our mission is to drive the future of structural electronics, pushing the boundaries of product design and functionality.
To support this mission, we are looking for a skilled and hands-on Illumination Engineer to join our team in developing next-generation lighting solutions for automotive applications.
Job Overview:
As an Illumination Engineer, you will be responsible for developing innovative optical and lighting solutions as part of TactoTek’s engineering team. You’ll work at the intersection of optical theory, simulation, and real-world prototyping, playing a central role in designing high-performance, manufacturable illumination systems using IMSE® technology.
This is a specialist role that requires a combination of simulation expertise, practical engineering mindset, and automotive experience. You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure our designs meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.
The preferred location for this position is Finland or Germany, with flexible hybrid work options available.
We will begin reviewing applications during week 33, so early applications are encouraged.
Key Responsibilities:
Optical and Illumination Design
Design and simulate illumination systems using Speos, LightTools, or equivalent tools
Apply optical theory to support light distribution, efficiency, and visual quality
Iterate and validate concepts through simulation, prototyping and lab testing
Automotive Application Engineering
Design lighting solutions to meet automotive regulations and OEM specifications
Collaborate with customers and internal teams to align on product and process requirements
Product and Process Integration
Work closely with electrical and mechanical designers to ensure system-level integration
Support design-for-manufacturing in line with IMSE® process capabilities
Apply knowledge of injection molding (IM) processes to ensure design compatibility
We Expect You to Have:
Proven experience in illumination or optical design
Hands-on experience with optical simulation tools (Speos, LightTools, etc.)
Good understanding of optical theory and its practical applications
Background in automotive lighting development, including relevant standards
Competence in electrical or mechanical design and cross-functional collaboration
Experience with injection molding processes is an advantage
A proactive, practical mindset and willingness to get hands-on in prototyping
Fluency in English; German or Finnish is a plus
What We Offer:
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of embedded illumination in a fast-growing, modern company. You’ll collaborate with world-class designers, engineers, and OEMs to bring groundbreaking IMSE® lighting concepts to life.
At TactoTek, employees are empowered to take ownership of their work, grow their expertise, and shape their role over time. Our flexible, remote-friendly culture supports both professional impact and personal balance. We offer a competitive compensation package and the chance to be part of a team that’s redefining how electronics and lighting are designed and manufactured.
